Turning and milling services

UNI-PRO offers turning and milling services, using the specialised machinery we have at our disposal, all orders are carried out efficiently, professionally and with the utmost precision.

What is a lathe?

A lathe is a device that is used for machining workpieces made of metal. Turning is the most common type of machining. This is due to the fact that rotary solids are the most common shapes used in industrial machines. They are usually solids with a rotating solid surface. The following shapes are considered rotating solids: shafts, cones, spheres as well as external and internal threads. Turning, i.e. machining, most often involves separating a layer of material with a turning knife from an object that is on a lathe, i.e. a machining machine.

The operation performed on a machine called a lathe is called turning. The machining tool is usually a lathe knife (which consists of a work part and a shank part). The shank part is mounted in the vice of the lathe, while the robot part is the working piece. Also the machining tool can be a drill or a tool used for threading.

The turning process involves putting the workpiece in a rotary motion and then cutting its surface with a machining tool. The workpiece body must be placed in what is known as a tusk during the machining process.

Types of lathes

Lathes by group and sub-group can be divided into several types. Namely, we distinguish between chuck lathes, disc lathes and carousel lathes. Carousel lathes are a separate group of lathes that are designed for machining workpieces with significant diameters and relatively small heights. Carousel lathes are characterised by a spindle with a vertical axis of rotation. They are mainly used in heavy industry to shape large components weighing up to 25 tonnes.

Semi-automatic and automatic lathes

Semi-automatic and automatic lathes are a separate group of lathes designed for batch and mass production. These are usually castings, forgings and parts after pre-machining. Nowadays, parts made on lathes in the cutting process are practically maintenance-free, lathes are fully automated. Automated lathes can be single or multi-spindle. However, the most popular lathes are claw machines. These are lathes used for small and medium batch production. The material is machined in what is known as a tusk, chuck or support. These can be universal, production, multi-leg, heavy-duty and precision. There are also special lathes on the market, manufactured for the needs of various industries. Turning and milling services offered

In addition to turning, other operations can be performed on the lathe, including boring, reaming, drilling as well as trimming and radiusing. Milling and grinding with additional jigs is also acceptable. We also offer machining by machining, whereby we give the workpieces a specific shape in accordance with the customer's instructions. The most common operations performed on the lathe are the operations of making grooves, undercuts and threads. We invite you to contact us in order to get acquainted with a detailed offer in the scope of services performed by our company on a lathe. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
